Coast Guard presence beefing up in Port Angeles Harbor

PORT ANGELES — A fourth Coast Guard cutter will call Port Angeles Harbor home in the very near future.

The 87-foot cutter Wahoo is scheduled to join its sister ship, Adelie, the 110-foot Cuttyhunk, and the 210-foot Active at Coast Guard Group Port Angeles at the tip of Ediz Hook as early as Sunday.

Originally, Wahoo was scheduled to replace the larger Cuttyhunk, which was to be transferred to Astoria, Ore.

But Coast Guard brass has changed plans and will keep Cuttyhunk in Port Angeles for now, Petty Officer Robert K. Lanier of the 13th Coast Guard District public affairs office in Seattle said Wednesday.

The Port Townsend-based Osprey — the same patrol class boat as the Adelie and Wahoo — rounds out the North Olympic Peninsula’s cutter contingent.
