NEAH BAY — The Coast Guard has seized about 60,000 ecstasy tablets from a small boat in the waters off Neah Bay.
The 18-foot boat, piloted by an unidentified 21-year-old man from Neah Bay, was transporting its cargo of $720,000 worth of ecstasy from Vancouver Island on Thursday afternoon. The drugs were contained in a duffle bag, the Coast Guard said.
“This is a pretty significant bust for the Coast Guard, not only in Neah Bay, but for the Coast Guard in general,” Coast Guard spokesman Petty Officer Eric Chandler said.
The Neah Bay Police Department had investigated this drug trafficking operation at least for the last two years, Chief Sam White said
The man piloting the boat was arrested and taken to the Clallam County jail, Chandler said. The man’s name was not released. Chandler said he did not know the name, while
White said it should be released by the Coast Guard.
White said the man is involved with a drug ring in Canada.
He said the department contacted the Coast Guard with information about the man who was arrested two months ago.
“We’re not done on our end,” White added.
“There’s more involved than just that.
“This thing is still ongoing.”
