MOUNT VERNON — A temporary bridge over the Skagit River opens Wednesday, restoring Interstate 5 traffic less than a month after the old bridge collapsed May 23 when it was struck by a truck with an oversize load.
Gov. Jay Inslee announced the reopening today after inspecting the work and praising workers at Mount Vernon.
The Transportation Department says traffic will be reduced to 40 mph on the narrow temporary span. The freeway through the area has a 60 mph speed limit.
