SEATTLE — Rear Adm. Melvin Bouboulis assumed command of U.S. Coast Guard District 13 at a June 30 ceremony at Coast Guard Base Seattle.
Bouboulis relieved the district’s previous commander, Rear Adm. Anthony J. Vogt.
Bouboulis previously served as the director of operational logistics at the Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Vogt retired in a ceremony at Alki Point Lighthouse later in the day; bringing a 35-year career in the Coast Guard to a close.
The District 13 is responsible for all Coast Guard operations in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.
As its new commander, Bouboulis will be responsible for 4,400 miles of coastline, 600 miles of inland waterways as well as the 125 nautical mile maritime border with Canada.
He will command 3,300 personnel, 14 cutters, 107 small boats and 11 aircraft.
