PORT ANGELES — A new name, logo and tag line will be announced Thursday during an open house at Peninsula Community Mental Health Center, 118 E. Eighth St.
The event from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. is open to the public.
Executive director Peter Casesy hopes community members will come to learn about the variety of services the 41-year-old agency offers.
Peninsula Community Mental Health is not only a resource for those diagnosed with severe mental illnesses, Casey said.
“We see a lot of people with symptoms of anxiety, depression, relationship issues and marital issues,” he added.
Yet many local residents don’t know the center offers help to such clients.
There has been a stigma around mental health and the center itself, Casey said. He and his staff want to dispel that and invite the public in to become more familiar with the agency’s broadened mission.
“As our community has grown and developed, so have the psychiatric and psychological needs of our residents,” he said. “Changing our name is consistent with our efforts to be a more inclusive organization.”
Casey declined to say what the center’s new name will be, adding that Thursday will be the time for that.
Also at the open house, Casey and his staff will announce plans for Peninsula Community Mental Health’s annual fundraiser to be held May 11.
Refreshments and brochures will be available, too.
