PORT LUDLOW – A 120-unit timeshare development commonly known as Trendwest will not be built in Port Ludlow.
The developer, formally Trendwest but now called Wyndham Resort Development Co., had entered into an agreement in 2004 with developer Port Ludlow Associates to purchase 14.66 acres of land.
It withdrew its application last week, Wyndham spokesperson Lisa Burby said Wednesday from her office in Florida.
“When it became prudent for us to withdraw the application, we moved forward to do that,” Burby said.
“We’ve already been involved in this project for more than two years.”
She added that the prominent factor that led to the decision was the company “believes that the project would continue to be held up in the appeals process.”
The appeals that have plagued the project have focused on the zoning of the tract of land known as Tract E in the Ludlow Cove II portion of the Port Ludlow Master Plan Resort.
The tract is zoned for single-family residences.
Although one hearing examiner decided that the timeshares are single-family residences, another concluded that they would be transient accommodations, as did an appellate hearing examiner.
Diana Smeland, interim president of Port Ludlow Associates, was unavailable for comment Wednesday.
