Extra law enforcement personnel will be out on the North Olympic Peninsula this holiday weekend to stop impaired drivers during special emphasis patrols.
In Clallam County, the Port Angeles and Sequim police departments, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and the State Patrol will be out in force, said Jim Borte, Clallam County Target Zero manager.
In East Jefferson County, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office and Port Townsend Police Department will “be working a combined effort this holiday weekend to ensure there are no drunk drivers on the highway,” said Sgt. Andrew Pernsteiner of the sheriff’s office.
Emphasis patrols in Clallam County are to continue through July 13.
“Summer is the deadliest time of the year on our streets, roads, and highways,” Borte said.
Those convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can face jail time, fines of up to $5,000 and license suspension or revocation, among other possible outcomes, Borte said.
