CLALLAM BAY — If you see a column of smoke near Clallam Bay today, it’s likely from a controlled burn, according to the state Department of Natural Resources.
DNR approved today an industrial forestry landowner’s 116-acre broadcast burn, and expected it to begin late this afternoon.
The approved burn is about 3 miles southeast of Clallam Bay.
The smoke column may be visible from Clallam Bay, Port Angeles, Port Townsend, Sequim and Vancouver Island.
Broadcast burning is a maintenance burn of fuel such as pine needles, grass or downed tree branches.
