PORT ANGELES – The man convicted of beating his girlfriend to death in 2004 has died in a state prison.
Nathan Eugene Hipsher, 27, who beat girlfriend Amber Bulus-Steed in a Sequim hotel in front of her children, died of cancer in the Washington State Reformatory Monroe Correctional Complex on Sunday, corrections officials confirmed Monday.
Hipsher pleaded guilty to murder in August 2005 and was sentenced by Clallam County Superior Court Judge Ken Williams to 29 years in prison.
At the time of the sentence, Hipsher’s lawyer, Terry Mulligan, said Hipsher was not expected to live through the sentence because of his cancer, which required chemotherapy.
