SEQUIM — City Council members Monday night declined Mayor Walt Schubert’s offer to resign.
Schubert said he offered to step aside after a heated debate between the council and downtown business owners over movement of a public restroom and limiting access to one of the city’s shortest streets.
“I just wanted to give the council a chance to make a change if that’s what they wanted,” Schubert said Tuesday.
Schubert’s offer came at the end of the council meeting, following an executive session, after most of the public had left.
