PORT ANGELES — The City Council on Tuesday met for the first time to discuss selection of a permanent city manager since members interviewed four finalists on Friday.
The council made no announcement after the closed executive session, and the names of the four finalists remain confidential.
Interim City Manager Jerry Osterman said earlier on Tuesday that he expected the council to discuss an offer at the meeting.
The position, which attracted 80 applicants, has been available since former City Manager Mark Madsen resigned on Sept. 1.
He announced his resignation in July citing “untenable, hostile working conditions,” and received $37,000 in severance pay. Madsen’s annual salary was $148,000.
Osterman, who is paid $12,000 a month, was selected by the City Council in September for the interim position.
He said he would be willing to stay on until February if needed.
“It’s been delightful,” said Osterman of his time as city manager, adding that he would have applied for the permanent position if he were younger.
The city hired Waldron & Co. of Seattle for $25,000 to find applicants for the position.
Waldron lists on its Web site that the Port Angeles city manager could be paid between $130,000 to $155,000, along with benefits.
