PORT TOWNSEND — A new walk-up ballot drop box has been placed outside the Jefferson County Courthouse to better serve pedestrians.
The box, the seventh available in East Jefferson County, was installed at the base of the steps leading to the front doors of the courthouse on 1820 Jefferson St., on Thursday.
The box will allow pedestrians to more safely cast their votes, said Quinn Grewell, election coordinator. They will not have to compete with vehicles at the drive-up box in the rear parking lot of the courthouse.
The drop box will be accessible 24 hours daily starting Oct. 14, when the general election ballots will be mailed to registered voters, until 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3, Grewell said.
The box was installed after the Peninsula Daily News’ 2020 Voter Guide was printed. So it is not included in the guide inserted into today’s newspaper.
