Couple in their 80s chase man who allegedly stole purse

PORT ANGELES – After she was knocked to the ground and dragged a few feet before her purse was wrenched from her grasp in a parking lot on West Front Street, an 82-year-old woman and her 83-year-old husband gave chase.

But it was a squad of officers from the Port Angeles Police Department who caught a 25-year old Port Angeles man and found the woman’s purse in the bushes just west of the Laurel Street stairs connecting First and Second streets at 11 a.m. Friday.

Peter Elrod was booked in Clallam County jail for investigation of first degree robbery.

Port Angeles Sgt. Glen Roggenbuck said Elrod was apprehended within five minutes of the attack.

In addition to Roggenbuck, three officers and a detective helped arrest Elrod and recover the woman’s belongings.

Roggenbuck said the woman suffered minor cuts and bruises but did not need medical attention, he said.
