PORT ANGELES — Tim and Pat Morgan will join more than 70 other members of the Peninsula College Foundation’s Donor Wall in a ceremony Friday, Jan. 18.
The formal induction ceremony — set for 2 p.m. in the Maier Hall foyer at Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd. — will mark the Morgans’ entry as members of the wall, said Phyllis van Holland, director of public information.
Inductees are honored for donating $10,000 or more to the college, van Holland said.
The wall is located by the entrance to the college, just past the college’s arches.
The Morgans, who live in Port Angeles, are being honored for establishing the Tim and Pat Morgan Match Fund in 2011, which provides student scholarships to the college, based in Port Angeles and with branches in Port Townsend and Forks.
“Scholarships are especially crucial in times of economic uncertainty,” Peninsula College President Luke Robins said.
“Because of the generosity of Tim and Pat Morgan, more community members will now be able to achieve their dreams of a higher education and better-paying jobs right here on the Peninsula.”
Tim Morgan decided to help local college students when he read about the increasing enrollment at Peninsula College during a time of significantly declining financial aid availability.
“A sizable donation from the Haller Foundation, as well as funding from community members, allowed the Peninsula College Foundation to match the Morgan fund, and the Morgan scholarships were born,” said van Holland.
The scholarships provide up to $1,000 per quarter for tuition and $300 for books, renewable for up to eight quarters, for eligible students who have graduated from a Clallam County high school.
To date, the Morgan scholarships have benefited 71 students, some being awarded more than once, for a total of nearly $100,000 in financial assistance to area students.
Mary Hunchberger, executive director of the Peninsula College Foundation, said the foundation and the college are grateful that so many students have been helped by the Morgan’s generosity.
“We have an incredibly generous community when it comes to helping those in need, and we’re very pleased to be able to honor the Morgans for their generosity by inducting them as members on our Donor Wall,” Hunchberger said.
