CARLSBORG — As land-use controversies go, the quarrel between Jason Linde and his opponents turns on a life-or-death issue.
First, the death side:
Linde wants to operate a crematory in a storage building in the Carlsborg Industrial Park.
As for life, Brian Magner, who owns the nearby Gabby’s Java Hut, says its emissions have no place drifting over his eatery.
The controversy has simmered since April 23, when Clallam County Hearing Examiner Chris Melly approved a conditional use permit for the premises at 108-B Business Park Loop.
Linde needs the special permit because the county’s land-use regulations list no zones for crematories.
The issue may come to a full boil at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, when county commissioners hear Magner’s appeal of Melly’s ruling.
