SEQUIM — Joe Borden, chairman of the Sequim Irrigation Festival, said the closure of the Hood Canal Bridge the day before the first day of the festival had no effect on attendance.
“The crowds are just as big … I don’t think the Hood Canal Bridge closure affected us at all,” he said Saturday after the festival finale, the Grand Parade, which boasted 126 entries.
“There were more local folks,” said Borden, adding that he had no attendance figures.
“It’s a local festival anyway. That’s what it should be.”
The annual festival began its 114 edition on May 2, the day after the bridge was closed for replacement of the east half.
On Saturday, Sequim hosted not only the Grand Parade, but a Kids’ Parade, a logging show and a car show. Earlier events included a weightlifters’ contest and fireworks.
