PORT TOWNSEND — Embraced by the irresistible aroma of fresh cinnamon rolls, life music and smiling residents sporting food baskets and flower wreaths, the Port Townsend Farmers Market launched its 14th season on Saturday.
The market — which is the largest street market west of Seattle — featured a record 45 vendors, selling Peninsula grown organic produce and locally made merchandise.
“It is completely maxed out,” said Harvindar Singh, Port Townsend Farmers Market food and farm coordinator through Washington State University Extension/Jefferson County.
Opening under the banner of “Local Flavor,” the market is intended to promote local food and educate the buyers that local means “grown on the Peninsula,” Singh said.
Hundreds of residents wondered between booths, eyeing and purchasing fresh carrots, warm bread, artisan soaps and art pieces.
