Cruise ship arrives in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles tourism planners are tweaking onshore activities for the cruise ship American Spirit, which docked this morning after heavy winds delayed its arrival from Monday night.

About 40 American Spirit passengers on the first of 13 Puget Sound cruises disembarked from the 205-foot, 100-passenger-capacity cruise ship at City Pier.

The ship will depart late Wednesday for Port Townsend, arriving in the Key City later than originally planned because of the wind delay.

Christina Pivarnik, marketing director of city of Port Townsend, said the delay won’t change any tours planned for visitors.

But it will mean that cruise ship guests this week will not be greeted by Jefferson Historical Society docents as originally planned, and that the Key City Players will not perform the dinner theater originally scheduled for Wednesday night.

But Pivarnik will go aboard at breakfast Thursday to greet cruise ship passengers with a personal welcome.

“I can’t wait to meet all of them face-to-face,” she said.
