Cruise ship Statendam to dock in Port Angeles on Saturday

PORT ANGELES — The Holland America-owned Statendam will bring 1,213 passengers and 580 crew members to Port Angeles on Saturday.

The cruise ship, the second to dock at Port Angeles in as many weeks, is scheduled to arrive at noon and leave at 11 p.m.

The Zuiderdam, which docked last Friday, carried 1,952 passengers and 817 crew members.

Downtown businesses reported a boost in sales as passengers crowded the streets.

Port Angeles Downtown Association Executive Director Barb Frederick expects another boost from the new visitors.

Both stops are during Holland America’s “repositioning cruises,” where it moves ships from the Caribbean to Vancouver, B.C., in preparation for its summer trips to Alaska.

Volunteers and representatives of local business organizations from Port Angeles and Sequim will greet passengers with shuttles, maps and brochures.

A 1963 Chevrolet truck, as seen in the “Twilight” movies, will be at the dock. There may be traditional dancers and singers from the Lower Elwha Klallam tribe.

The Elwha River Casino will provide the truck, which it will eventually give away through a promotional campaign, as a photo opportunity, said Joni Eades, casino marketing manager.
