PORT ANGELES – The day seemed a lot like the last day of any other year of school at Roosevelt Middle School and Fairview Elementary School.
But the library books were packed.
The chairs from the classrooms were in the halls.
Shelves were being cleaned for the last time.
The word “last” was readily on people’s tongues.
Both schools were at the end of their careers on Thursday.
Fairview is being closed, while Roosevelt Middle School will become Roosevelt Elementary School.
Thursday saw the last school spirit assembly at Roosevelt Middle School and students rang the Fairview bell at the current campus for the last time on Wednesday.
The last talent show for Fairview, the last time middle school students would shout support for Roosevelt, the last time students would wander the halls of Fairview for classes before it is boarded up this summer were all part of the day before the transitions begin on Thursday.
