PORT ANGELES — Thursday is the deadline for applications from candidates who want to be the next schools superintendent.

The search for a new Port Angeles School District superintendent is on schedule for a late March selection, School Board President Steve Baxter said Monday.

“Thursday, Feb. 27, is the deadline for receipt of application materials,” Baxter said.

The board is being assisted by professional consultants Steve Rasmussen and Jim Shoemake of Ray and Associates Inc.

“The board remains committed to a very transparent search process,” Baxter said. “We intend to involve students, staff, community members and local business and community leaders in the search for our new superintendent.

“Stay tuned for announcements for opportunities to meet our final candidates.”

Following Thursday’s deadline, here is the School Board’s timeline to find a new superintendent, to replace Jane Pryne when she retires in June:

■   March 11: Interview questions and procedures will be finalized with the School Board. Semifinalist applications will be presented to the board for candidate selection.

■   Week of March 17: Interviews with semifinalist candidates; the board will meet with the consultants following the final interview to select finalists.

■   Week of March 24: The board will interview finalist candidates, then meet with the consultants after the final interview.

■   March 27: The board is expected to vote on a new superintendent during the regular board meeting.

Once the board makes its selection, the board members will invite him or her to an onsite visit, and, with board approval, a consultant will discuss contract terms and offer a contract to the finalist.

Pryne will retire at the end of the current school year, June 30, after five years at the top administrative position.

As soon as the new superintendent is selected, a search will begin for a new assistant deputy superintendent to replace Michelle Reid, who departed in June 2013 to become superintendent of the South Kitsap School District.
