PORT ANGELES — The registration deadline is Dec. 1 for the Young Artist and Junior Young Artist competitions, the yearly events hosted by the Port Angeles Symphony.
The Young Artist Competition is open to any North Olympic Peninsula instrumental music student who will be younger than 22 years old as of June 1, 2014, and who did not win first prize in the 2013 competition.
Prior years’ winners are eligible to compete.
The Junior Young Artist Competition, meanwhile, is for North Olympic Peninsula instrumental music students in ninth grade or below.
Students who have competed in or applied for the Young Artist Competition or won first prize in the 2013 Junior competition are not eligible to enter this year.
Participants play a musical selection of 10 minutes or less at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., during the contests starting at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 25.
The first-place winner of the Young Artist Competition will receive a $500 cash award; the second-place musician wins $250. In the Junior contest, the first prize is $250 while second is $125.
