SEQUIM — As a modern homesteader facing a recession, this woman takes to heart her mother’s motto: Use it up. Wear it out. Make it do, or do without.
Debi Breitbach-Glass, a spinner and weaver of wool — as well as pet fur — also gains creative inspiration from those words. They’re from the Great Depression, the era her mother, Jeanette Fasano, grew up in.
The way her mom found a use for everything fits these times just as well.
Breitbach-Glass, who has her looms, spinning wheels and farm animals on 5 acres west of Port Angeles, will be among the participants in Sequim’s Shepherds Festival.
The annual celebration will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at the Sequim Prairie Grange Hall, 290 Macleay Road, and will feature fiber animals from sheep to llamas, shearing and spinning demonstrations, 17 art and craft vendors and many children’s activities.
Admission is free, though shish kebabs and other treats will be sold.
