SHINE – Drivers can expect delays of up to 30 minutes on the Hood Canal Bridge this week.
Routine mechanical and electrical inspections of the bridge’s drawspan will result in short bridge closures Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Hood Canal Bridge is inspected each year for mechanical and electrical operations by the state Department of Transportation’s bridge preservation office.
Structural inspections are also done annually, with the next one scheduled for the fall.
In addition, a full-time maintenance crew on the Hood Canal Bridge monitors the bridge’s structure, ensures pontoons are watertight, and keeps the bridge operational.
A multimillion-dollar renovation project to replace the bridge’s east half, including the drawspan, is scheduled for the spring of 2009.
