A 9-hour electrical power outage on the West End was caused by the felling of a large tree that was deliberately cut down, Clallam County Public Utility District reported.
The power went out for all areas west of Lake Crescent at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and was fully restored by 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
The tree fell into a Bonneville Power Administration transmission line off of state Highway 112 near Sadie Creek, west of Joyce.
The tree was 114 feet from the center of the right of way and it hit the transmission line about 20 feet from the top, so the tree was about 134 feet tall, said Nicole Clark, PUD spokesperson.
Chainsaw marks could be seen on the 42-inch-diameter tree, Clark said.
Bonneville was expected to report the felling of the tree to the state Department of Natural Resources.
