PORT TOWNSEND — Three demolition derbies will cap the weekend at the 14th annual JeffCo Expo today.
In separate events, adults and youths will crash cars and trucks during the demolition derbies on the last day of the expo at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 4907 Landes St.
Gates for the expo open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.
Admission is $8 for those 12 and older. Those 11 and younger and active military with current identification will be admitted free.
Free for grandstand-ers
Spectators will pay nothing beyond the fair admission to watch the demolition derbies in the grandstand.
The car and driver fee is $50, said Ed Neet, owner of Peninsula Recycling and Auto Wrecking of Port Townsend who organized the car and truck events. Crew pit passes are $20. Registration to participate in the grandstand events will begin at 8 a.m.
Also, passengers can pay $5 each to ride in a monster car — a 1965 Thunderbird atop a 1953 military frame with huge tires — as it rolls over an obstacle course that includes a car, big tires, logs and a hole.
The first grandstand event will be a tough truck competition at 11 a.m.
That will be followed by the Kids’ Derby, in which those between 10 and 15 years old compete in small cars.
“If you have a driver’s license, you can’t be in the Kids’ Derby,” Neet said.
Next will be an adults small-car derbie, followed by the adult large-car and G-truck demolition derby.
Plenty for kids
Also, the Big Purple Slide, mechanical bull rides, vendors, a Kids’ U-Fish Pond and kids’ bingo are planned.
A garage sale in the Cat Building from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will raise money for the Jefferson County Fair Association.
The fair restaurant will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
