DISCOVERY BAY — A man whose sailboat flipped in Discovery Bay spent nearly 30 minutes in the water trying to get the boat to shore before being helped from the water Saturday evening.
The man, who authorities were unable to identify, was brought to shore near Adelma Beach by a local resident at about 6 p.m., Petty Officer Leonard Newsom of Coast Guard Group Port Angeles said.
Newsom said the man was the only person aboard the 12-foot sailboat when it overturned.
The man, who was wearing a wetsuit, was able to climb atop the overturned boat, Newsom said. But he went back in the water to try and pull the vessel to shore.
