PORT TOWNSEND — “The American Nurse,” a look inside the lives of five nurses, will come to downtown Port Townsend for two showings next week, with ticket proceeds to benefit the Jefferson Healthcare Foundation.
In this feature-length documentary, viewers will follow Tonia Faust as she cares for maximum-security prison inmates; Jason Short, who works with home health patients in Appalachia; Brian McMillion, a nurse who cares for soldiers returning from war; Naomi Cross, who nurses mothers giving birth; and Sister Stephen, who takes care of home patients at the end of life.
The first screening will be in the Starlight Room, the theater upstairs at 237 Taylor St., at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Tickets are $50, to benefit nursing education and training through Jefferson Healthcare.
The second showing is a 12:30 p.m. matinee Sunday, June 29, at the Rose Theatre, 235 Taylor St., where tickets are $20.
“This is a powerful and moving film,” Jefferson Healthcare spokeswoman Kate Burke wrote in a news release.
“Nurses are the front line and face to the medical care you or your loved ones have received,” she noted.
“Their work is incredibly important to the health outcomes.”
