DOT seeks comment on roundabout for Highway 104-Shine/Paradise Bay Road

SHINE – The state Department of Transportation’s top choice for the improvement of the state Highway 104-Shine/Paradise Bay Road intersection is a roundabout.

DOT officials will staff an open house from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Port Ludlow Maintenance Commission Beach Club t 121 Marina View Drive to “hear potential strategies to reduce collisions and improve access” at the intersection.

An analysis of the intersection that considered safety needs, operational efficiency and traffic volume recommended a single-land roundabout, DOT said in a press release issued today.

DOT officials “would like to hear the public’s comments on that finding,” the release said.

No formal presentation will be given; community members can stop by any time and share their comments.

“Staff will show poster displays and a brief video about the benefits of roundabouts, and will provide information about the recommendations for improving efficiency at this intersection and accept public comments,” the release said.

The project is budgeted at $3.8 million and it is expected to be funded in the 2021-2023 biennium.

It is projected to open in fall 2023.
