PORT ANGELES – Later this month, the construction fence at the Port Angeles International Transportation Center construction site will move to the west and eliminate another 70 downtown parking spaces.
Then people really will need to use the approximately 200 additional parking spaces the city created elsewhere in the downtown before the project started, said Port Angeles Downtown Association President Kevin Thompson.
Moving the fence was delayed until after the summer tourist season so as to reduce its impact on downtown parking, he said.
Gateway Center construction began in June and is expected to last until late summer 2008.
The $13.8 million project at the corner of Lincoln and Front streets will include a transit building with a public plaza and bus lane plus a two-tiered parking garage, clock tower and pavilion roof covering the plaza.
The construction will cut the number of parking spaces downtown until the project is completed.
