Driver falls asleep, takes out two roadsigns before landing in hospital

DISCOVERY BAY — A 42-year-old Auburn man reached the interchange of U.S. Highway 101-state Highway 104 early today — asleep.

After crashing into two roadsigns, the van he was driving overturned and skidded 20 feet, the State Patrol reported.

Rajinder Singh, 42, was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of injuries, troopers reported.

According to a State Patrol report, here’s what happened:

Singh was traveling westbound on Highway 104 about 13 miles from the Hood Canal Bridge at 4:05 a.m. when he lost control of the 2005 GMC van he was driving on the ramp to northbound U.S. 101.

The van went off the road to the left, struck a roadsign, and Singh steered to the right and went into a ditch.

The van struck another roadsign, then overturned onto its passenger side and skidded 20 feet to its final resting spot on the northbound shoulder of U.S. 101.

Singh was using his seat belts, and no alcohol or drugs were involved, the State Patrol reported.
