PORT ANGELES — Some 30,000 ducks will be dumped in the Lincoln Park pond for the 23rd annual Duck Derby today.
If need be, they will propelled to the finish line with the help of a fire hose.
Festivities will begin with family entertainment at 1 p.m. at the pond at Lincoln Park at 1900 W. Lauridsen Blvd.
The main duck race will begin at 2:30 p.m., preceded at 2 p.m. by the Bub and Alice Olsen Very Important Duck Race.
Duck tickets can be purchased at the park pond up until the start of the race.
Each duck ticket costs $5; $25 will buy an additional duck, providing six chances to win.
For each rubber duck that’s “adopted,” the purchaser receives a ticket with a printed number that corresponds to the number on the duck.
All of the numbered ducks are dumped into the pond.
The “owners” of the first 42 ducks to cross the finish line will win prizes worth more than a total of $25,000, with the top prize a 2012 Toyota Tacoma pickup or Toyota Corolla provided by Wilder Toyota.
The Very Important Duck — or VID — Race features special ducks purchased for $250 or $500 emblazoned with the logos of businesses and individuals who do business with local companies.
Proceeds benefit the Olympic Medical Center Foundation and the Sequim Rotary Club’s charitable projects.
he Kids’ Pavilion will offer entertainment for youngsters, KONP 1450 AM Radio will broadcast the event live, and refreshments will be available.
