Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge seeks volunteers

SEQUIM — Those who want to volunteer at the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge can sign up now for April training.

Training of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service volunteers for the refuge is planned Friday, April 14.

Annual new volunteer training will be from 8 a.m. to noon, with lunch provided from noon to 1 p.m., at the Sequim Prairie Grange Hall, 290 Macleay Road.

In addition, the refuge will hold its annual refresher for current volunteers from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the same place.

New volunteer training is offered only once each year and is a requirement for volunteering at the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge.

Primary duties of volunteers are to greet visitors and provide information about the refuge’s trails and wildlife. Additional volunteer opportunities include wildlife surveys, invasive species mitigation, habitat restoration, maintenance, beach cleanup and administration.

Requests for sign language interpreting services, closed captioning or other accommodations should be sent to Dave Falzetti at 360-457-8451, david_ falzetti@fws.gov or TTY 800-877-8339 at least two weeks prior to the date of the event.

For more information and to reserve a space at the training, call the refuge office at 360-457-8451 or email david_falzetti@fws.gov.
