Eagle Scout’s project will be resurrected log Scout House

PORT TOWNSEND – When he was in the fifth grade, Cody Craig was invited by a friend, Ryan Peil, to attend a meeting of Peil’s Boy Scout troop.

Cody joined the troop, which met every week at the Scout House, a rustic log cabin surrounded by tall trees on top of Morgan Hill.

Last Saturday, Cody received the highest rank in Scouting at the troop’s new meeting place, Evangelical Bible Church.

For his Eagle project, Cody built new picnic tables for the American Legion Park at the entrance to Port Townsend and organized a work party to clear a fire lane along the fence bordering Discovery Road.

And, with the help of members of the Elks and American Legion, Cody and the Scouts cleared a place for the dismantled Scout House to be resurrected.

“Our goal and plan is to bring back the log cabin,” said Mitch Poling, former Scoutmaster of Troop 1479, at Saturday’s ceremony.

“Cody’s project is extremely significant to the troop, to the town and to the American Legion Park.”
