Early morning blaze leaves two homeless in Carlsborg

CARLSBORG — Two Carlsborg residents were displaced Monday morning after a fire heavily damaged their home along Davidson Drive off Spath Road.

Patrick Young, spokesperson for Clallam County Fire District No 3, said a 9-1-1 call came in about the fire at 2:59 a.m. Monday from the woman who shared the 83 Davidson Drive home with a man in his 60s.

Firefighters arrived at 3:05 a.m. to find the second floor of the two-story home in flames, Young said, and spent about 30 minutes extinguishing the blaze.

The man was examined and treated at the scene for minor hand injuries and potential smoke inhalation, Young said, while the woman escaped the home without injury.

Young did not have the names of the man and woman Monday.

The owner of the house is listed as David L. Cooper, according to the Clallam County Assessor’s Office.

Firefighters kept the blaze contained to the second floor, though the rest of the home sustained smoke and water damage, making it uninhabitable, Young said.

A damage estimate was not available Monday.

Young said the man and woman refused services from the American Red Cross and are staying with friends.

Fire investigators still were determining the cause of the fire Monday, Young said, though it appeared to start in one of the two upstairs bedrooms.

Young said it was unclear if the man and woman had insurance.

Fourteen firefighters and seven pieces of equipment were used to extinguish the fire, Young added.
