QUILCENE — Two minor earthquakes shook the North Olympic Peninsula early Friday morning, rousting only a few people out of bed.
A 4.8 magnitude quake centered 28 miles due west of Poulsbo — near Mount Anderson — struck at 3:02 a.m.
An aftershock at the same location was recorded at 4:56 a.m., officials said.
Both quakes were registered by University of Washington seismic sensors.
“No damage has been reported to us,”‘ Jefferson County Commissioners Dan Titterness, R-Port Townsend, and Glen Huntingford, R-Chimacum, said Friday while celebrating Brinnon Loyalty Day in Brinnon.
Washington state seismologist Anthony Qamar said many residents, sleeping and otherwise, likely felt the main earthquake.
“Because of its depth, it would cause light damage if any damage,” Qamar said.
The temblor occurred at a depth of 31 miles, he said.
