OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — East Beach Road will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday through Aug. 25.
Crews will replace the Log Cabin Creek culvert, which requires a 25-foot-deep excavation, said Penny Wagner, interim spokeswoman for Olympic National Park.
The new culvert, which will be immediately west of the Log Cabin Resort turnoff, will allow for fish passage, she said.
During this closure, Log Cabin Resort will remain open; it will accessible only from East Beach Road. The Lyre River Trailhead of the Spruce Railroad Trail will be accessible only from Joyce-Piedmont Road.
East Beach Road was built between 1911 and 1925 and provides access to private residences, Log Cabin Resort and several day-use areas. In 2015, about 67,600 vehicles used East Beach Road, Wagner said.

Work continues on a $27.5 million project to rehabilitate 12 miles of U.S. Highway 101 around Lake Crescent.
Travelers on Highway 101 around Lake Crescent should expect half-hour delays Mondays through Fridays during work hours. Weekday work hours from April 1 through Sept. 23 are restricted to two hours after sunrise to two hours before sunset.
Traveling in the morning before 8 a.m. and after 6:30 p.m. can help travelers avoid the half-hour delays, Wagner said.
After work hours and on weekends, drivers can expect short delays for alternating single-lane traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals.
The road along Lake Crescent’s south shore was built in the early 1920s, replacing ferry passage across the lake, Wagner said. In 2015, over 420,000 vehicles traveled this road.
