Sunrise in PA
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles area Christian churches will host a combined Easter sunrise service at Civic Field at Race and Fourth streets at 7 a.m. Sunday.
Pastors and other members of churches participating directly in the service are affiliated with Bethany Pentecostal, The Crossing, First Baptist, Free Methodist, Hillcrest Baptist, Open Bible, First Presbyterian and Independent Bible Church, according to the Rev. Glen Douglas of The Crossings Church, one of the organizers.
“At least a dozen churches have been involved in the planning and organization,” Douglas said.
The service has been a tradition in Port Angeles for at least 45 years, Douglas said, and has been held at Civic Field for about 25 years.
About 400 people usually attend, he added.
Offerings received will be given to Ministries Assisting Neighbors Needing Agape, or MANNA, of Port Angeles. MANNA provides financial assistance to people with emergency, short-term needs. No more than $100 is given to any household in a 12-month period.
Assistance is provided in the basement of the Presbyterian Church at Eighth and Oak streets from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays.
Contributions to MANNA can be made through participating churches or by mail to MANNA, c/o Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles 98362.
The coalition of pastors who organize the sunrise service meet at the Cafe Garden at 8 a.m. each Thursday, Douglas said.
“It’s open to any Christian pastor within our community,” he said.
He said the group hopes to expand activities.
“We’re focused on improving our community.”
Wharf celebration

Although not a sunrise service, the special service is a “safe, relaxed alternative for celebrating Easter outside the traditional box of a church building,” said the Rev. Skip Cadorette of the First Baptist Church.
The church has planned music, readings and a short message, with hot coffee provided.
