Easter weekend full of egg hunts, bunny visits and events

Hundreds of children are expected to participate in Easter egg hunts, be photographed with the Easter Bunny and share community breakfasts with their families this holiday weekend.

Most communities in Clallam and Jefferson counties will celebrate Easter in their own way, but all focus on events for children and families.

There are also a number of religious program, mostly offered by churches, throughout the region.

Here are the larger non-religious Easter events planned for communities on the North Olympic Peninsula:

Port Angeles

* The KONP Easter egg hunt will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday in Shane Park, 613 S. A St.

The event is for children 12 and younger.

More than 3,500 eggs will be hidden in the park and thousands of prizes will be awarded.

Children should bring their own baskets and containers for eggs.

The Easter bunny will also be on hand to greet children and pose for photographs.

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. — forms are available at the radio station and at various businesses throughout the Port Angeles area.

The forms should be filled out and brought to the event.

* The Easter bunny will visit downtown stores from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and will hand out candy to children, courtesy of the Port Angeles Downtown Association.

* An Easter egg hunt will be held today at Crestwood Convalescent Center, 1116 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Children are invited to hunt eggs at 2:45 p.m., 3:15 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.

The event will occur at the nursing home in the Children’s Club Playground area.

* An Easter egg hunt will be held Saturday at Black Diamond Community Hall, 1942 Black Diamond Road.

For children ages 6 and younger, the hunt begins at 10 a.m. Children ages 7 to 12 will take to the hunt at 11 a.m.

The event is sponsored by Silver Spurs 4-H Club.

* Zaar’s Market Place will host an Easter egg hunt Saturday in front of the store at 2343 E. U.S. Highway 101.

The event will feature various prizes including candy and other Easter goodies.

Children will hunt according to their age.

At 11 a.m. children ages 1 to 3 will hunt eggs. At 11:30 a.m., children ages 4 and 5 begin. Youngsters ages 6 and 7 hunt at noon and children 8 to 10 years can participate at 12:30 p.m.

Sequim

* An Easter egg hunt complete with prizes such as stuffed rabbits, candy, toys and bicycles will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The event for children younger than 11 will be held at Carrie Blake Park, off Blake Avenue.

The event is sponsored by Sequim Texaco, Taco Bell Express, Taylor Cutoff 76 and Pettit Oil Co.

Toddlers must be accompanied by a parent.

* The Elks Lodge Easter Egg Hunt, complete with prize-filled eggs, will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.

The egg hunt is for children from the Sequim community ages 10 or younger.

Cookies and punch will be served afterward.

* Sequim’s First Baptist Church, 1323 Sequim Dungeness Way, will host an Easter egg hunt Saturday.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. and children younger than 12 are invited to participate.

Activities will include prizes and a story from Bud Davies, a ventriloquist.

Forks

* An Easter egg hunt will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Tillicum Park ballfield for children 12 and younger.

The egg hunt will include more than 1,500 real eggs and 200 prize eggs containing candy, gift certificates and money.

A drawing will also be held for prizes, including stuffed animals and a bicycle.

The event is sponsored by Sully’s Drive-In, Forks Thrifty Mart and Coca-Cola.

* An Easter buffet breakfast will be served at Forks Elks Lodge, 941 Merchant Road, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

Pancakes, French toast, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, ham, sausages, hash-brown and fruit will be served during the fund-raising breakfast.

Proceeds benefit Sunshine & Rainbow Child Development Center and will be used to pay for playground equipment.

Breakfast costs $6 for adults, $4 for children 4 to 11 years old and senior citizens. Children 3 and younger eat free.

Joyce

* The Kitchen’s Family Community Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday on the Crescent School playground, 50350 Highway 112.

The egg hunt is for children 10 and younger. Bring buckets or baskets to collect eggs.

LaPush

* LaPush Ocean Park Resort will host an Easter egg hunt and various events beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Children can participate in coloring, homemade Easter basket, best Easter outfit and various other contests for prizes. The Easter bunny will also visit.

Beaver

* There will be an Easter egg hunt at Hungry Bear Cafe, 205860 U.S. Highway 101, at noon Saturday.

Egg hunters will be divided into two age groups — children 12 years of age and younger can participate.

Prizes will be awarded to children and there will also be a drawing for adults.

Clallam Bay/Sekiu

* The community Easter egg hunt begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at Clallam Bay School on state Highway 112.

The event will feature hunting for real and plastic eggs, which will contain prizes.

Children 12 and younger can participate in the event sponsored by West End Youth and Community Club.

Brinnon

* The Community Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Dosewallips State Park.

Children ages 12 and younger will be searching for more than 1,000 plastic eggs filled with candy.

There will also be drawings for Easter baskets, candy and stuffed bunnies.

Chimacum

* Several churches are sponsoring Easter egg hunts for children in their congregations.

Port Ludlow

* An Easter brunch and egg hunt will be held Sunday in Port Ludlow.

The egg hunt will be in The Resort at Ludlow Bay Conference Center, 200 Olympic Place.

It begins at 11 a.m.

The free event is open to children between ages 1 to 11.

Prizes will be awarded by age category and the Easter bunny will be making an appearance.

Brunch will be served in the Harbormaster’s Chart Room at the resort from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Port Townsend

* The 18th Annual American Legion Post No. 26 Ladies Auxiliary Easter Egg Hunt will be at 1 p.m. Sunday

The event at American Legion Park is open to children up to 11 years old.

Egg hunts will be according to age.

The Easter bunny will be available for photos and “Bunny-Hop Karaoke” will occur after the event.

* The fourth annual Easter Egg Hunt will begin at the Calvary Chapel, 13474 Airport Cutoff Road at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Children up to 12 years old are invited.

About 5,000 plastic eggs filled with candy and other goodies will be hidden.

There will also be drawings for Easter baskets and a puppet show.

* The Port Townsend Elks Lodge 77th annual Children’s Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 7 a.m. Sunday.

Children will hunt for 1,980 eggs at Chetzemoka Park on Jackson Street.

Special prizes will be awarded for selected eggs.

Local boy scouts will assist during the egg hunt.

Quilcene

Quilcene Lions Club is sponsoring their annual Easter egg hunt Saturday.

The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Quilcene Community Center/Park, 294952 Highway 101.

Children 12 years of age and younger will be divided up by age group to search for eggs, candy and prize eggs.
