PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend’s Local 20/20 group and the Salish Sea Regional Transition Hub are sponsoring the first week of an “Eat Local” campaign that starts Sunday.
The campaign starts with a Zoom meeting at 7 p.m. Sunday, that will have local author Vicki Robin discussing why eating locally and seasonally is a good decision.
People can access the meeting by going to https://tinyurl.com/PDN-EatLocalZoom or by using meeting ID 827 4531 1177.
“There are many reasons to eat local, but one important reason is this: to make a local food system a reality, the farmers need eaters — that’s all of you out there — committing to purchasing the food shared at our numerous farm stands, CSAs (community-supported agriculture), farmers markets, and grocery stores,” the campaign’s website said.
There are three weeks spread across the summer for the campaign, with next week focused on exploring eating local, with week two scheduled for Aug. 8-14 focused on sharing locally sourced meals, and Sep. 19-25 focused on preserving local foods for winter, the website said.
More information on the campaign, future events and a list of local food providers can be found at https://l2020.org/local-food/eat-local/.
