PORT ANGELES — Judy Maves-Klatt led Rose Ann Carroll by 655 votes in a primary contest for Jefferson County auditor on Tuesday.
Both Democratic candidates will advance to the Nov. 4 general election regardless of what happens in the countywide primary.
Maves-Klatt had 3,970 votes to Carroll’s 3,315 votes — a 53.6 percent to 44.8 percent edge — after the office for which they are running processed 9,641 ballots Tuesday.
Carroll, 63, and Maves-Klatt, 52, are vying to succeed Jefferson County Auditor Donna Eldridge, who is retiring.
Maves-Klatt is a freelance appraiser and a former attorney.
Carroll is currently deputy auditor.
