Four law enforcement agencies will be conducting unannounced special emphasis patrols on U.S. Highway 101 as part of the Driving 101 Traffic Safety Project launched between Laird’s Corner and Gardiner last month.
The participating agencies –Washington State Patrol, Clallam County Sheriff’s Department, Port Angeles Police Department, and Sequim Police Department — will focus on the leading causes of crashes in the project area: speeding, failure to yield, following too closely, impaired driving and inattention.
At least, four patrols will be conducted each month through September 2006. Two will occur during daylight hours and two will take place at night.
The Washington Traffic Safety Commission is funding the patrols.
