Saturday’s cabaret

PORT ANGELES — “Obsessed” is the title of the cabaret-burlesque-comedy show for the 21-and-older crowd at the Metta Room, 132 E. Front St., this Saturday night.

Tana Villella-Flath, aka Noxious Oxalis, will serve as mistress of ceremonies in addition to giving a performance.

“Instead of complaining that there is nothing fun to do, I try to create the events I would like to attend,” Villella-Flath said recently.

She has assembled a lineup including Jamie King and Rondo & Lizzy, who do a particular style of comedy; burlesque artists known as Siouxsie Q, Baby Cakes and Icee Cupcakes; and a drag performer called Kylie.

Show time is 9:30 p.m. with a cover charge of $5, or $10 for those who want to be sure of a seat.

The music: a “delectable set of indie tunes, featuring songs by Imagine Dragons, Arctic Monkeys, Black Keys and more,” Villella-Flath noted in her Facebook invitation.

“There will be a raffle basket valued at $150,” she added, “so bring lots of dollars for tickets.”

For information about this show presented by Nox Ox Produx, see the “Obsessed Burlesque & Variety Revue” page on Facebook.

Two-step dance classes

SEQUIM — No previous experience nor dance partner are required in the nightclub two-step dance classes at the Sequim Prairie Grange Hall, 290 Macleay Road, starting Tuesday.

Steve and Ann Johnson will teach the 7 p.m. sessions each Tuesday night through April at a cost of $5 per person per class.

At 8 p.m., Darlene and Michael Clemens will step up to teach advanced West Coast swing, also for $5 per lesson.

For details about the Johnsons’ series, email lazyjfarm@msn.com or hone 360-457-5950; to find out more about the West Coast swing classes, contact the Clemenses at luvndancin14@yahoo.com or 360-457-2001.

Yoga with music

PORT ANGELES — A one-man band from Missoula, Mont., will arrive here in time to play live music for this Tuesday’s 6:30 p.m. class at Poser Yoga, 128 E. Front St.

Multi-instrumentalist Nathan Zavalney, who specializes in musical accompaniment for yoga practice, played at the yoga studio in fall 2013, said owner Jenny Stewart Houston.

“It went over very well,” she said. “His music is perfectly suited to a yoga class.”

The fee for Tuesday’s class is the same as always at Poser: $12 to drop in, less for pass holders.

For more about Zavalney and his music, go to liveyogasoundscapes.com, and for details about the venue, visit wwwPoserStudios.com or phone 360-393-0977.

Trashion Show call in Forks

FORKS — Artist and organizer Sarah Tucker is putting out a call for contestants in the Trashion Show, an event that will be part of the April 24 RainFest, to take place at Forks’ new Rainforest Arts Center.

The deadline is next Friday, April 10, to submit a piece of “artwear,” Tucker said, that’s made out of castoff materials.

The Trashion Show is open to people of all ages, and there’s no cost to enter.

Artists are encouraged to email sarah@tuckerart.com with descriptions of their pieces.

As an example of trash fashioned into wearable art, Tucker herself made a big wig out of white plastic grocery bags. Then she built a jacket out of newspaper and garbage-bag sleeves and a gift-ribbon collar.

Come the day of RainFest, Trashion Show designers and models must be at the Rainforest Arts Center, 35 N. Forks Ave., by 5:30 p.m. to prepare for the event at 7 p.m.

A panel of local judges will award prizes for works of art in various categories, Tucker added.
