PORT TOWNSEND — The Bolshoi Ballet’s “The Legend of Love” comes to the movie screen at the Rose Theatre, 235 Taylor St., this Saturday.

“Legend,” one of Russian master choreographer Yuri Grigorovich’s earliest works, is all about forbidden love and the conflict between love and duty.

With dance moves, sets and costumes inspired by the Middle East, the three-hour Ballet in Cinema presentation will take the screen at 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

Tickets are $12 for children, $14 for seniors and $15 general.

Belles on in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — “The Christmas Belles,” a comedy about extended family and second chances, is on at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse, with shows at 7:30 tonight, Saturday and Tuesday night plus 2 p.m. Sunday.

Jim Guthrie directs this romp starring Danielle Lorentzen, Barbara Frederick and Brenda Dunlap as Twink, Honey Raye and Frankie, the Futrelles of Fayro, Texas; Sherie Maddox as Rhonda Lynn, who may be more than a family friend; and Pete Christiansen as the department store Santa Claus.

Real-life mother and daughter Linda and Kennedy Cameron are also part of the story as Patsy and Gina Jo.

Rounding out the “Belles” are Lynne Murphy as Miss Geneva, Steve Chamberlain as Deputy John Curtis Bunter, Luke Saskowski as Justin and Bob Bronsink as a shepherd who saves the day.

Reserved-seat ticket prices are $12 for adults and $6 for students for Fridays, Saturdays, Sunday matinees and Tuesdays.

Festival seating tickets are sold for $6 Tuesdays at the door of the playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Tuesday jazz

PORT ANGELES — A free jazz concert, with numbers ranging from “Stardust” and “Straighten Up and Fly Right” to the little known “Secret of Christmas,” is set for Tuesday night at Peninsula College’s Maier Performance Hall.

The college’s 14-piece Jazz Ensemble, with vocalist Robbin Eaves, will take the stage at 7 p.m. for the evening of music by Nat King Cole, Hoagy Carmichael, Woody Herman, Sonny Rollins, Art Blakey and other jazz greats.

Steinbeck on screen

PORT TOWNSEND — Broadway’s “Of Mice and Men,” starring James Franco and Chris O’Dowd, will take the Rose Theatre screen twice this weekend: at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets to this showing of John Steinbeck’s classic story are $20 general, $16 for children and $18 for seniors at www.RoseTheatre.com.

Holiday matinee

PORT LUDLOW — Singer Victoria Robertson, named Miss USO San Diego in 2000, will give a matinee concert titled “A Classical Holiday” next Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Bay Club, 120 Spinnaker Place.

Doors will open at 3 p.m. for holiday wassail and other refreshments before the 4 p.m. show presented by Port Ludlow Performing Arts.

Robertson, who held the Miss USO title for seven years, is a classically trained soprano who explores musical theater, classical and crossover songs.

Tickets are $24 for general admission; elementary school-age students accompanied by adults may attend for $10.

Christmas Chorus’ 30th annual concerts

SEQUIM — The Sequim Community Christmas Chorus will give its 30th annual Christmas concerts next Friday, Dec. 5, through Sunday, Dec. 7.

These three performances at the Sequim Seventh-day Adventist Church, 30 Sanford Lane, are fundraisers for local nonprofit groups.

Gary McRoberts directs the chorus in the “Hallelujah” chorus from Handel’s “Messiah” and other sacred songs, with Kayla Dyment serving as accompanist.

Children younger than 12 will be admitted free, while adults are asked to make a suggested $5 donation.

Tickets will be available at the door for the concerts at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 and at

3 p.m. both Dec. 6 and

Dec. 7.

Kids’ theater course

SEQUIM — A weeklong children’s theater workshop is slated for Dec. 29 through Jan. 3, excluding Jan. 1, at Olympic Theatre Arts.

Geared toward youngsters age 8 to 18, the workshop will focus on auditioning skills, building self-confidence and performance readiness — just in time for the Missoula Children’s Theatre tour’s arrival Monday, Jan. 5.

The company will hold auditions for a Sequim production of “The Wizard of Oz,” with Olympic Theatre Arts as the sponsor.

The cost for the children’s theater workshop, which has sessions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, is $150 including lunch and snacks.

Call for artwork

SEQUIM ­— The Sequim Lavender Growers Association is accepting lavender-themed artwork submissions for the Sequim Lavender Festival’s juried art competition.

The winning artist will receive a $500 cash award, have his or her art on the official 2015 Sequim Lavender Festival poster and receive a free booth space at the 2015 festival’s Fir Street fair.

The deadline for submitting artwork is Dec. 31.
