PORT ANGELES — Entries are being accepted for three contests scheduled for the “Bella Luna: A New Moon Celebration,” that begins Friday, when the “New Moon” movie is released.
The downtown celebration will extend over two days after “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” is released Friday.
The movie will be shown right after midnight, in the early hours of Friday, in both Port Angeles — at the Lincoln Theatre at 132 E. First St. — and Port Townsend — at the Rose Theatre at 235 Taylor St.
In Port Angeles, “New Moon” will show on one screen at 12:01 a.m. Friday, and on the other screen at 12:15 a.m. Friday, said Kim Trenerry-Mogi, chairwoman of the downtown celebration.
“Twilight” will be shown at the Lincoln Theatre at 9:15 p.m. Thursday on one screen only, the same screen that will show the 12:01 a.m. Friday screening of “New Moon.”
The box office will open at 5:15 p.m. Thursday. Those who want to watch a double feature of “Twilight” and “New Moon” must buy two tickets.
The next showing of “New Moon” will be at 4:45 p.m. Saturday
In Port Townsend, the Rose Theatre will hold a midnight showing of “New Moon,” with tickets available in advance at the theater or online at www.rosetheatre.com beginning Monday.
With the movie kicking off interest in the places that the Twilight tale is set — Forks and Port Angeles — the Port Angeles Downtown Association has put together activities for fans.
Dog shows
Among them are two free dog shows, with prizes awarded, both sponsored by Tiny Bubbles Pet Store.
America’s Next Top Dog, a canine fashion show, will be from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Saturday at The Landing mall lower level, 115 E. Railroad Ave .
Dogs Got Talent, a dog trick contest, will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at The Gateway at Front and Lincoln streets.
Entry forms are available at the pet store at 1130 E. Front St., Port Angeles, or at 10115 Old Olympic Highway in Sequim, or at Dazzled by Twilight, 135 E. First St., in Port Angeles.
Wolf 6-Pack
The Wolf 6-Pack Contest, sponsored by Fitness West of Port Angeles, will give first-, second- and third-place prizes to those who are “fit as a wolf.”
The contest takes its name from the Wolf Pack in author Stephenie Meyer’s book, New Moon, which is depicted in the movie by actors pretending to be Quileute tribal members.
The contest will be from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Gateway.
Entry forms are available at Fitness West, 114 S. Lincoln St., in Port Angeles, and Dazzled by Twilight.
The contests are a small sampling of the events planned for the two days.
A scavenger hunt, Quileute storytellers and a performance by The Lonely H are all part of the festivities, which will have, as their grand finale, a Gothic Ball on Saturday night.
