PORT ANGELES — Six environmental groups have appealed a permit for Nippon Paper Industries USA’s biomass energy project to the state Shorelines Hearings Board.
The appeal of the shoreline substantial development permit, granted by the city of Port Angeles last September, was filed Friday.
The groups are the same ones which appealed the permit to the City Council last month, except for the Center for Environmental Policy, which did not sign the document.
The council upheld the permit.
The groups are: No Biomass Burn, Port Townsend Air Watchers, World Temperate Rainforest Network, Olympic Environmental Council, Olympic Forest Coalition and the state chapter of the Sierra Club.
