Exercise, ‘de-aging’ topics of lectures

SEQUIM — The Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic’s WOW! Working on Wellness committee has announced two free wellness lectures for December.

Jay Bryan will present a forum titled “Younger in 2013” at Olympic Medical Park, 840 N. Fifth Ave., at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Bryan will speak about learning the specifics of how the right exercise program can “de-age” your body next year and how to learn which type of exercises are most beneficial for seniors or those who will soon be seniors.

Tai chi instructor Teresa Schmid will present “Tai Chi for Physical, Mental & Emotional Health” at the Sequim Transit Center, 152 W. Cedar St., from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday.

The event will be presented in partnership with the Sequim Centennial Committee.

Bryan, an exercise physiologist, has nearly 30 years’ experience in the health and fitness industry, as well as a master’s in exercise science and certifications from the American College of Sport Medicine, said Pennie Robinson, wellness program coordinator for the Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic, Sequim’s free clinic.

Bryan has worked in corporate health and wellness, physical therapy, university-based cardiac rehabilitation, fitness and aging research at the University of Washington.

The clinic provides basic urgent-care and chronic health care services to uninsured community members.

The basic urgent-care clinic is open to patients Mondays and Thursdays beginning at 5 p.m.

Those interested in supporting the clinic may phone 360-582-0218.
