CARLSBORG — Traffic was backed up on U.S. Highway 101 at the intersection of Hooker and Carlsborg roads today after a dump truck with its dumper extended upward snagged and seriously damaged the traffic signal that normally extends over the eastbound lanes.
“The dump truck was coming from Carlsborg Road and turning onto 101,” said Trooper Krista Hedstrom, spokeswoman for the Washington State Patrol.
Kelly Stowe, spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation, said the traffic lights would be in 4-way red flashing mode until about 9 p.m. today.
“I believe our signals crew needs to acquire equipment, etcetera, before it can be fixed,” she said.
The truck owned by Diamond Construction of Carlsborg and driven by Delbert L. Gott, 70, of Sequim, Hedstrom reported.
“The[State Patrol] commercial division was inspecting the truck to see if it had any faulty equipment,” Hedstrom said.
The collision occurred some time between 10 and 11 a.m. Tuesday, causing traffic to back up both ways.
No charges had been cited in the incident and the State Patrol was still investigating.
