EYE ON CLALLAM: Commissioners to consider naming interim county administrator

Clallam County commissioners will consider appointing Human Resources Director Rich Sill interim county administrator at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be in the commissioners’ board room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Current County Administrator Jim Jones plans to retire Oct. 15.

Commissioners are searching for Jones’ replacement.

Other action items for the business meeting include:

• A letter to the state Department of Ecology regarding a Phase II municipal stormwater report for the unincorporated Port Angeles Urban Growth Area.

• A contract amendment with the state Department of Health to amend a statement of work for various Health and Human Services programs.

• An agreement with Sequim School District for the provision of transition program training.

• A contract with the state Health Care Authority to support outreach to Medicaid eligible clients.

• Notice of Oct. 23 hearings on proposed amendments to Clallam County policy for classification, work hours and compensation, as well as on two proposed ordinances amending the comprehensive plan map and zoning map in county code.

Commissioners will hold a work session to preview items set for action in future meetings at 9 a.m. Monday.

Scheduled discussion topics include:

• An update from Gray & Osborne, Inc. on the Clallam Bay/Sekiu sewer facilities plan.

• Grant application for water quality improvement projects.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will consider a $310,000 professional services agreement with KPFF Consulting Engineers for cofferdam facility improvements when they meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be at 338 W. First St.

Cofferdam spending is expected to be $250,000 in 2019.

Commissioners also will consider spending $439,148 for a new log loader, purchasing it from Cascade Traders. The bid is $74,148 over the amount budgeted and that amount would have to come out of port reserves.

Commissioners also will be presented with the final draft of the 2019 Capital Plan.

Public Utility District

Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners will hear a status report on cryptocurrency mining and how it affects the PUD at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in the Lake Crescent Boardroom at the Carlsborg main office at 104 Hooker Road.

Other agenda items include an update on possible new water systems, a resolution appointing two deputy auditors and a resolution establishing the district’s travel policy.

Port Angeles city

The Port Angeles City Council will hold a think tank Tuesday.

The special meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in the City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth.

The purpose of the think tank is to provide an informal setting where City Council members can brainstorm among themselves and discuss policy and other ideas.

Because the meeting is intended to be a brainstorming session for sharing ideas, no action will be taken, according to the meeting announcement.

Sequim City Council

The Sequim City Council will conduct a public hearing on a code update concerning business licenses when they meet at 6 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St. It will be preceded by a workshop at 5 p.m.

The code would be amended to be in accord with state requirements.

The council also will have the opportunity to comment on the proposed 2019 budget.

It will consider adopting the city’s 2019 legislative agenda.

At the workshop, council members will hear updates on the community development department and on capital projects.

Forks City Council

The Forks City Council will consider awarding a bid for a reservoir recoating project Monday.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Forks City Hall, 500 E. Division St.

Quillayute Valley

The Quillayute Valley School Board will consider approving a district improvement plan when it meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The board will meet at the library at Forks Elementary School, 301 S. Elderberry Ave.

It also will consider Highly Capable Program plan and a resolution concerning safe routes to school.

Conservation District

The Clallam Conservation District board will consider an agreement with the state Department of Ecology for a Dungeness water rule well metering pilot project at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be in Suite H at Armory Square, 228 W. First St., Port Angeles.

Peninsula College

Peninsula College trustees will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Cornaby Center on the Peninsula College Port Angeles campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
