EYE ON CLALLAM: County to consider Lake Sutherland boat wake

Clallam County commissioners will discuss Lake Sutherland boat wake at 10 a.m. Monday.

Scores of Lake Sutherland property owners raised concerns about the damage caused by large wake-generating boats last October.

Many others supported the rights of wakeboarders and wakesurfers to recreate on the 361-acre lake during a public comment period Oct. 20.

On Monday, commissioners will discuss the potential hiring of Peninsula Dispute Resolution Center to facilitate a conversation between the interested parties, according to an executive summary.

Other discussion items for the 9 a.m. work session include:

• A Dungeness off-channel reservoir project update.

• A North Olympic Development Council update.

• A discussion and input on criteria for replacement of vacant or frozen county non-public safety positions.

• A monthly budget performance review.

Commissioners will conduct their weekly business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

• An agreement with Olympic Community Action Programs for the operation of the COVID-19 Social Distancing Center.

• An agreement with Olympic Peninsula Community Clinic for medical services and case management at the Social Distancing Center.

• Resolutions establishing positions in support of Quillayute Valley and Sequim school district levy propositions.

• A resolution canceling uncollectible personal property taxes.

• A resolution adopting supplemental appropriations.

• A 10:30 a.m. public hearing for consideration of debatable budget emergencies.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will consider the process for selecting a new executive director when they meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The discussion about the selection process for filling the position being vacated by Karen Goschen to tend to her sister’s health will be during a work session that also will include an update on COVID-19.

During the regular session, commissioners will consider a work order for the site of the former KPly plant, a lease renewal with Arrow Marine Group and an executive session. The agenda cites state Open Meetings Act but does not provide a reason for the closed meeting.

Sequim city

The Sequim City Council will discuss forming a committee to study consultant’s utility rate recommendations when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.

The council also has scheduled two executive sessions: one to evaluate the qualifications of an applicant for public employee or to review the performance of a public official and another to discuss litigation or potential litigation.

The council will consider adding 2021 COVID-19 funding to the Sequim Health and Housing Collaborative and approval of the dedication of Mariners Outlook right of way.

The city manager will present an update on state transportation revenue and a Roadmap to Recovery Plan.

The council will hear a presentation on the Sequim School District’s levy proposal.

Forks city

The Forks City Council will conduct a public hearing on the Peterson annexation at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Port Angeles schools

The Port Angeles School Board plans a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday. No agenda was available on Saturday.

Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners will consider establishing excess capacity network access charges and a resolution amending the district’s investment policy at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Districting Commission

The Clallam County Districting Commission will conduct its first meeting at 1 p.m. Monday.

Agenda items include the election of a chair and vice chair and a timeline for U.S. Census data.

The commission will propose new boundaries for Clallam County commissioner districts based on U.S. Census data.

Conservation District

Clallam Conservation District commissioners will consider approving the 2021 election resolution during a special meeting at 3 p.m. Monday.

The election will be March 19.

The deadline to file as a candidate is 5 p.m. Feb. 16; to file for the appointed position, the deadline is March 31.
